From the moment, I entered the lobby at the Sourcing and Procurement Department, I thought to myself “The day has finally come to embark on this new journey.” Landing my first Professional Internship with The Walt Disney Company was a dream turned into reality. If you had told me six months ago that I would be spending my summer in Orlando working with Disney’s corporate office I probably would have laughed and said, “Yeah, right.” Well, never say never because I am now living my dreams as arising Junior in college with an opportunity of a lifetime!
Shortly after my arrival to the lobby, I was greeted by the Administrative Secretary who guided me through the building and led me to my own personal office! The state of shock that I was in was unbelievable. I was 100% sure I would be working in the typical intern environment, cubicle, computer, and file folders. Clearly, I was in for a surprise ! As I was walking into my office I glanced at the wall where I noticed my name plaque on the wall. At that moment I knew my life had changed forever. I was overwhelmed with emotions – ambition, happiness, and eagerness to learn. The warm welcome I received from Sourcing Specialists and Senior Managers later on made me feel at home. As a college student, I always feared corporate professionals would be intimidating. Fortunately, at The Walt Disney Company this is not the case.
Disney seems to have magic everywhere. From the moment you pass the welcome signs that inform you this is the place "Where Dreams Come True", it's like you embark on a magical journey. Having the opportunity to work alongside individuals who not only take pride in their work, but are happy to be here is inspiring. I plan to take full advantage of all of the great opportunities that I have at my fingertips at Disney Parks and Resorts. Not many have the chance, at 19 years of age to work for Mickey Mouse and network within one of the world’s Fortune 500 companies.
